In his continuing effort to make the United States Military the faster, more mobile and stronger fighting force that he envisions, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has initiated the Base Realignment and Closure (B.R.A.C.) process at the Pentagon.  This process requires the Defense Department to analyze all military installations both domestic and foreign to determine which can be closed or realigned with other bases.

On May 15th the B.R.A.C. Commission released it's preliminary recommendations and fortunately Fort Hamilton was not slated for any reduction in service.  There is still much work to be done as the B.R.A.C. process continues towards the final decisions.

Last year, Congressman Fossella (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) initiated the Fort Hamilton Task Force, a group focused on finding ways to prevent the bases possible closure and finding ways to expand the Fort's contribution

to the community. Recently, the Task Force released its full report on Fort Hamilton.  We encourage

you to review that full report here.*

After reviewing the report   we encourage you to download this letter*, print a copy, sign it and mail it to Chairman Principi of the B.R.A.C. Commission. The letter expresses your support for keeping the Fort open.
